LGBTQ Visual Art Exhibition

Submission Guidelines

 

The You Can’t Erase a Rainbow Visual Art Exhibition celebrates LGBTQ+ artists and allies from across South Florida. The exhibition is part of the Say Gay! Theatre Festival and highlights the power of visual art to resist censorship and affirm identity. Selected works will be displayed in the festival lobby throughout the event, with an opening reception on Friday evening.

Eligibility
  • Open to artists of any age residing in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, or Monroe Counties.

  • Artists may submit up to 2 works.

  • Collaborative works are accepted, but one artist must be the lead applicant.

Content Guidelines
  • Submissions should explore LGBTQ themes, inclusion, resilience, or visibility.

  • Works must be appropriate for a public/family-friendly space.

  • The following media are accepted:

    • Painting

    • Drawing

    • Photography

    • Sculpture

  • Multimedia/electronic works will not be accepted.

Artwork Requirements
  • Maximum size: 48 x 72 inches (any orientation).

  • Works must be ready for display:

    • 2D works must be framed or mounted with proper hanging hardware.

    • Sculptures must be stable and safe for a public setting.

  • Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of works.

  • FTF will provide standard display easels, pedestals, and wall space.

Submission Process
  • Submit via the online form.

  • Required materials:

  1. Digital image(s) of the artwork(s) (JPEG or PNG, high-resolution).

  2. Title of work, medium, and dimensions.

  3. Artist statement (250 words or less) describing the piece and how it connects to LGBTQ+ themes.

  4. Artist biography (150 words or less).

  • Deadline: TBC (11:59 PM EST).

  • Selected participants notified: TBC.

  • Art installation: TBC. (Earlier drop-off may be possible by arrangement.)

Selection Process
  • A panel of FTF staff and community stakeholders (including artists and arts leaders) will review submissions.

  • Scripts will be judged on:

    • Artistic merit

    • Relevance to LGBTQ themes

    • Feasibility of installation

Exhibition Details
  • Artwork on display: TBC.

  • Opening Reception: TBC.

  • Reception will include artist introductions and community engagement.

Compensation
  • Selected artists will be recognized in festival programs and marketing.

  • A stipend may be provided depending on funding.
